Can dogs or cats eat nicotine (cigarettes, gum, patches, vape)?

The problem compound: nicotine. For: dogs & cats.

Technically not food, but pets EAT cigarette butts and vape pods. The 'finished' butt still carries nicotine — ashtrays are a hazard.
